RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) A CPU-based remote peripheral unit that can handle I/O, perform self-diagnostics, and communicate bidirectionally with SCADA and supervisory systems on an event or call basis. RTUs use various communication technologies to transmit information between remote sites and control centres.
